MUTA Appoints New President
Jon Parr is appointed President of MUTA as Tony Marsh stands down after 7 years service in the role.

MUTA, the trade association for the UK temporary structures and technical textiles industries, is pleased to announce the election of Jon Parr as President of the Association. Jon was elected at the annual AGM, held in London on 13 May 2014, and replaces Tony Marsh who stepped down after seven years at the helm.

Jon has been a member of the Executive Committee since 2009, and currently represents Suppliers and Manufacturers. He is the Managing Director of Tentipi, one of the leading tipi suppliers in the UK, and has worked in the industry for many years.

MUTA is also pleased to welcome Claire Chapman to the Executive Committee. Claire, Managing Director of The Highfield Event Group, was elected during this year’s MUTA Executive Committee elections in April, and will represent Small Structure Hirers, the group previously represented by Tony Marsh. Claire joins re-elected Committee members Simon Bell (Suppliers and Manufacturers) and Mark John (inflatable Play), as well as Adrian Dann, Keith Bishop (both representing Large Structure Hirers) and Lucy Henman (Small Structure Hirers).

Commenting on his appointment, Jon Parr, newly elected President of MUTA, said, “I am thrilled to have been elected President of the Association. This is an important and exciting time for MUTA, as we seek to further our position as the voice of the industry, raising awareness of the Association and promoting its standards amongst those within the industry and the wider public. The launch this week of the new MUTA website and the Use a MUTA Member campaign are just the first steps in a series of innovative plans we have for the Association.

“I would also like to thank Tony Marsh for his hard work and dedication as President over the past seven years. Tony has worked tirelessly to raise awareness of MUTA and the important work it does, and he has been a great inspiration to all of us."

MUTA Safety Seminar
MUTA's marquee and inflatable play safety seminar series continues in London.

MUTA, the trade association for the UK temporary structures and technical textiles industries, will hold the next in its series of marquee safety and inflatable safety seminars on the 7th of March in London. The event, in collaboration with Royal Borough of Greenwich Council and LAEOG, is part of a series of seminars designed to inform local authorities of the safety standards required when organising events with marquees or inflatable equipment.

At the seminar, events organisers and health and safety officers from local authorities around the area will hear a presentation from MUTA’s Health & Safety Officer, Chris O’Neil, who will give an overview of MUTA and its nationally recognised safety schemes. Chris will also explain how event organisers can use the MUTA checklist to ensure their structure completely adheres to safety requirements. PIPA inspector Mike Lugar of Bouncycastle.com will demonstrate to attendees what he looks for when carrying out safety inspections on inflatable equipment.Commenting on the upcoming event, Tony Marsh, President of MUTA, said, “We’re very grateful to Royal Borough of Greenwich Council for agreeing to host this next seminar.

MUTA is committed to continuing to spread the word about the importance of event safety and informing delegates about MUTA’s nationally recognised safety schemes is a great way of doing this.”
Places at the seminar are free to Local Authority representatives and can be reserved by emailing info@muta.org.uk
